The T-55 tank was adopted into the Soviet Army's arsenal in 1958 and was produced for four years.
In 1962, a modernized version designated as the T-55A was introduced, which included, among other features, anti-radiation lining to protect the crew from penetrating radiation.
During its production and service, numerous modifications were made to the T-55 and T-55A tanks. For example, in 1970, a 12.7 mm DSzKM anti-aircraft machine gun was installed.
