Platoon of 5 x R35 Tanks
Description: The R35 is a French light tank designed in the 1930s. It was characterized by its relatively small dimensions and low mass, making it quite maneuverable on the battlefield. The R35 was armed with a 37 mm cannon and a machine gun, providing it with decent firepower at the time, though it became outdated as more modern tanks emerged.
Operational Use: The Polish Army acquired the R35 tanks in 1939 as part of preparations to defend against German aggression. Approximately 100 units of this vehicle were delivered to Poland. These tanks were mainly used in cavalry units and light tank battalions. Although the R35 was not capable of standing up to modern German tanks like the Panzer III or Panzer IV, it participated in combat during the September 1939 campaign, where its mobility and maneuverability were sometimes advantageous.
Post-War History: After the September campaign, many of these tanks were captured by the Germans or destroyed in combat. The R35 remains an interesting example of the use of light tanks in the Polish armed forces before World War II.
